The Ground

The Ground

Eriswell Lodge opened in April 2015 under the new ownership of father and son duo Nigel and Stuart Smith. Formerly the ‘Lakenheath Clay Target Centre’ the internationally renowned ground closed in January 2014, this was a devastating blow to shooters in the area who had lost their practice and competition facility. Not long after closing the father and son team started to express an interest in reopening the facility, to ensure shooters could continue to enjoy the well-loved ground.

In January 2015 work got underway on site; a mammoth task faced the small team with rubble to clear, skeet ranges to renovate and plenty of general ground maintenance. A temporary club house was bought in prior to opening, to ensure shooters had a warm and inviting place to sign in and enjoy home-cooked food. Since opening the shooting ground has continued to grow, the reception has now moved to a separate building with a shooting accessory and country clothing shop, with the temporary clubhouse still being used as the café and serving a wide range of hot and cold food. The ground holds a range of competitions throughout the year, which are always well received by shooters travelling from near and far to test themselves across the layouts. All of our upcoming competitions can be found on our club calendar. Not only do we cater for seasoned shooters but if clay shooting is something you have always wanted to try then Eriswell Lodge is the perfect location for you, with a designated training area one of our experienced instructors will be able to take you out and get your smashing clays in no time. If you have been shooting for a while and want to brush up on some skills, then our tuition will help you iron out any problems in no time and have you back on top form. Please see our tuition section for more information on what we have to offer.

In May 2017 planning was granted for the construction of a new clubhouse on site. This will be a large 2 story building with a café, shop and function rooms. The outside will be cladded in black wood to not only match the other buildings on-site but to also resemble that of a traditional Suffolk barn, making it look like it has always been here. A large area of the building’s roof will be covered in solar panels, to ensure as much green energy is used as possible to run the clubhouse and charge the trap batteries. Building work is due to start in  2018, with completion by early 2019 this exciting new building is set to completely transform shooters experience. Offering visitors, a warm and comfortable space to enjoy around shooting, spectating or even for those who just wish to pop in for a coffee!

Eriswell Lodge continues to grow and expand, with investment constantly being put into the shooting areas to ensure the best possible experience. Our designated trap and skeet ranges have had a dramatic facelift, and the sporting layout is changed as often as possible to ensure variation even for those who visit us weekly. Our Promatic traps are the perfect trap for us, as they are easily managed to ensure minimal no birds and break downs. On site we now have the facilities for the shooting of; English sporting, Skeet, DTL, ABT, Sportrap and all the variations of these.

We hope our visitors enjoy seeing the ground develop, and look forward to welcoming you to Eriswell Lodge!
